A new chapter in life – Why I joined FSLogix as Cloud Architect and Evangelist?

As of today, I’m joining FSLogix as Cloud Architect and Evangelist. (Which I’m pretty excited about!)

Why I joined FSLogix?

Sometimes you get opportunities in life that you cannot ignore. A couple of months ago, I got in touch with FSLogix for the first time, and they asked if I would consider a permanent role within the company – primary focus on region EMEA. The message was straightforward and solid, we are growing and need expansion on our technology experts team (Jim Moyle, Benny Tritsch, Michel Roth, Kevin Goodman and Gabe Knuth). Switching jobs usually is something that could happen once in 4 years to continue growing, although now I’m going to work for a vendor, which is something that was on my list for a very long time. Jim Moyle described it perfectly in his “Why I became a Technical Evangelist for FSLogix” article, which he’d written when he joined the team – “Working with people smarter than you are as a route to personal growth”. I’m very much looking forward to working with this extremely knowledgeable team!

In my previous role for Detron in the Netherlands, my daily work was designing and implementing Public Cloud infrastructures and End-User Computing environments, mostly based on Citrix – for the larger multinational enterprise customers. Helping with the Digital Transformation, advising on Cloud strategies, writes business continuity plans, strategies, and realizes on-premises and cloud-based environments. I’ll use all this knowledge to engage with current and future FSLogix customers.

FSLogix products fill some significant gaps in Digital Workspace – application delivery architecture designs.  They’re building all the things that are stopping you from moving from physical, static, Windows desktops to the cloud. I’ve always been a big supporter of the product, wrote several blogs in the past on the container solution (here). A fun story is that I was FSLogix’s first Dutch (large real estate) customer buying their product 2,5 years ago during one of the Office365 migrations that I performed, we ran into significant performance problems using Outlook and OneDrive upon Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop – Virtual Apps and Desktop. FSLogix came to rescue, and the Profile Container solution solved all of the issues on a snap! More importantly, they allow for a smooth transition from on-premises Windows application delivery to a (hybrid) cloud-based Desktop-as-a-Service model. FSLogix has an outstanding technology for containerizing Windows application, personal data, and user profiles to on-premises and Public Cloud deployments, such as in Microsoft Azure Storage Blobs or AWS S3 storage repositories through the new Cloud Cache solution!

I will help FSLogix to continue their journey and Cloud Digital Workspace vision by interact and engage with current and future customers and partners, creating business cases for large worldwide customers, set-up partner meetings, attending customer events, partner training, creating technical high-low level designs based on Cloud and on-premises for their largest customers, giving product presentations at events, writing professional tech blogs, whitepapers, and most important, interact with the developers to make the product better than it already is. A critical part of my job will be to listen to customers and the community and bring that back to product development to eventually put this new feature requests into the products!

What about my community-related work?

Don’t be afraid – I’ll keep blogging on Cloud innovation on my own blog as you know from me, so that’s not going to change for sure! FSLogix encourages and always supports the community. Our CEO, Kevin Goodman has been a mentor to a lot of people over the years within to Community as well! So they’re giving me enough room to continue with Microsoft Azure MVP, Citrix CTP, and VMware vExpert community programs I’m participating in. You can probably catch me at Microsoft Ignite, which is the first large event coming up! I’ve submitted a session on Azure lifting and shifting, so hopefully, you’ll see me in the community theatre!

So, as you can see, I’m pretty excited about the products and future. Are you interested to know more of one of the products? Please reach out to me through my email cbrinkhoff@fslogix.com – I’d love to share our vision with you!

Cheers,

Christiaan Brinkhoff
